Raksha Bandhan (the bond of protection) is celebrated among Hindu, Jains and some Sikh in India, Maruritius, Nepal and Pakistan on the full-moon day in the month of Shravan (July- August). The festival is also called Rakhi Purnima or Baley.
This day symbolizes love, affection and a feeling of brotherhood and sisters tie a piece of sacred thread, called rakhi around the wrist of their brothers, praying for their long life and happiness. This tradition of tying a rakhi has been coming down through the ages, since the Vedic time. Rakhi represents the holy and unconditional bond between brothers and sisters.
On this Rakhi Utsav, as a ritual, a sister ties a colourful and decorative rakhi, a sacred thread that symbolizes love between siblings, around her brother's right wrist. The festival starts by performing traditional aarti and concludes with pray for her brother’s long and happy life.
A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.
Happy Rakhi!
Sister is someone who is caring and sharing. She can hear the unspoken words.
She can understand the invisible pain. I love my sister for being the world to me.
Happy Raksha Bandhan…!!!
