Independence Day, celebrated annually on 15 August, is a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. Independence Day is celebrated by every citizen of India irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The day is celebrated as a national holiday. All the schools, colleges, government buildings and private places across nation hoist the national flag on the rooftops and the buildings to symbolize the stature of the national flag as nation's pride.
